How To Create An Aesthetic and Authentic Instagram Feed
We all want our brand to come across well online, but deciding how to present ourselves and provide value to our clients takes time.
Put your hand up if you have ever been scrolling through Instagram and been inspired by so many accounts and wanted to change your profile to be similar to theirs? I know I have; it’s so tricky knowing whether to go for the aesthetically pleasing, well-organised feed or to come across as the authentic you.
But, why can’t you do both?
As you may know, aesthetic feeds do very well and are some of the most popular accounts on Instagram. But, authentic and not so curated accounts are on the rise. Consumers do tend to prefer honest and relatable content, but why can’t you have both? Keep reading to find out how!
Find the balance
Including a subtle theme and sharing clearly thought out content is super effective. One thing you MUST do is make sure your Instagram and brand looks are cohesive. This means your brand is unified between all of your platforms and helps your clients know it’s you.
However, it is easy to over curate your feed and make it full-on aesthetic over authentic. The problem with this is that it removes all ability to relate to your content and removes all personality. Heavily edited photos and filtered images may be a trend, but that doesn’t mean you need to be a sheep and follow.
Do you want to connect with your audience? Well, the way to do it is to be YOURSELF. No one buys from just a brand; they buy from the person and the story behind the brand, so show that off and make your personality clearly come across in your content!
I struggled with this at first. I started by creating aesthetically pleasing content, which did well for a short time, but it slowed, and I wasn't sure why. I reviewed all my content, shifted to show off more personality, and made my theme more simple. The results were astounding. Engagement increased, my feed suited my style, and it was clearly Flossie Taylor Social! Making this change was the best thing I did for my Instagram.
How to add personality to your feed
A good feed requires a personality. There must be some aspect of relatability among the educational or promotional content, something that keeps your clients coming back. The key is not to think about it; keep it simple! You’ll thank yourself for making this change.
Here are a few tips to help keep the authenticity within your posts:
Conversation: talk to your audience. Make those captions conversational. Ask questions and reply to their comments. Create content in your stories or posts that they will want to engage with and react to.
Put a face to the brand: people love to see the face of a brand. Show BTS videos and images of you going about your workday. People are nosy and love to see what people get up to.
Tell a story: let people in. Give your followers some history about how you got to where you are today – how the brand was born, what inspired you, what are you looking forward to in the future of your brand? Talk about it in your stories. I highly recommend creating a highlight of your brand’s journey.
